Discourse Studies

A Practical Guide

,

This volume brings together a series of chapters written by members of the Complutense research group ‘Discourse and Communication in English: Cognitive and Functional Perspectives’ (DISCOM-COGFUNC).

In the spirit of transfer and dissemination of knowledge, our objective in this volume is to provide readers (especially students in the Degree of English Studies) with a series of practical proposals to analyse diverse forms of discourses and texts in English from various perspectives, ranging from critical discourse analysis and pragmatics to forensic linguistics.

Each chapter includes a brief theoretical approach to different phenomena such as stance or politeness, together with practical activities and their key for self-correction. It is written in a reader-friendly, accessible language to those students who are starting on their journey to discourse studies but can also appeal to those at Master level.
